To help students gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s job market and broaden their global career perspectives, the Office of International Affairs, in collaboration with the Career Development Center and the International College of Sustainability Innovations (ICSI), hosted the “Cake x NTPU Global Alumni Connect” event on the evening of March 19, 2026, at the USR HUB. For the first time, four international alumni from the technology, media, and finance sectors were invited back to campus to share their professional journeys in Taiwan. The event attracted around 80 local and international students, with lively participation and strong engagement throughout the evening. Even after the three-hour program concluded, many students continued their conversations with alumni, seeking further advice on career development and job opportunities in Taiwan.
The event opened with an introduction by Cake to the Talent Taiwan and Taiwan Career Quest platforms, guiding students through government-supported career resources, job information, and mentorship opportunities. This session provided participants with a clearer and more practical understanding of the external resources available to support their career development in Taiwan.
The program featured three main components: a keynote session, an alumni panel, and rotating Coffee Chat discussions. In the keynote, Cake presented “Taiwan’s Job Market and Career Transition Strategies,” offering insights into industry trends and key job search strategies, and equipping students with the skills needed to enter the Taiwanese workforce.
The alumni panel, themed “From International Students to Working Professionals,” brought together four distinguished alumni: Felicia, a Data Engineer at SYSCOM (Indonesia; Department of Statistics); Bay Chai Yong, a Senior Social Media Strategist at AKIMIA (Malaysia; Department of Real Estate); Charissa, a Tax Consultant at EY (South Africa; Department of Public Finance); and Cosima, a Public Relations Specialist at RhinoShield (Germany; GMBA Program). Drawing from their own experiences, they shared their journeys from academic life and internships to full-time employment, highlighting key turning points and practical insights gained along the way. Their stories demonstrated the diverse career paths of NTPU’s international graduates across multiple industries.
In the second half of the event, rotating Coffee Chat sessions were conducted in small groups, with each round lasting 10 minutes. These sessions allowed students to engage directly with alumni on topics such as resume preparation, job search strategies, and living in Taiwan. Through multiple rounds of face-to-face interaction, participants were able to hear a wide range of perspectives across industries and career paths, making the exchanges both dynamic and highly practical. The format also helped students gain clearer direction for their future careers and begin building their professional networks.
Overall, the event received highly positive feedback from participants. Students noted that the content was both practical and inspiring, helping them better understand Taiwan’s job market while expanding their career perspectives and professional connections. A student from the Department of Business Administration shared that the resume guidance and alumni insights provided valuable direction and increased confidence in pursuing a career in Taiwan.
Notably, despite coming from different countries and industries, the alumni consistently emphasized several key factors for success: the importance of internship experience, the value of proactive learning and asking questions, the role of language skills in workplace communication, and the unique strengths international talent brings to Taiwanese companies, including cross-cultural understanding, multilingual abilities, and diverse perspectives. These shared insights directly addressed students’ concerns about building careers in Taiwan and added depth and impact to the overall event.
This event marks an important step in advancing international talent development in Taiwan and represents NTPU’s first alumni-led career engagement initiative of its kind. By connecting global alumni with current international students, the university continues to strengthen an integrated support framework for career development. Moving forward, NTPU will further expand its global alumni network and industry partnerships, enhancing its capacity to cultivate international talent and reinforcing its global competitiveness and impact.
